Description: This course provides a concise overview of the guiding principles and evidence-based practices currently used in language teaching. It exposes students to various language teaching approaches, with a special focus on the development of interactional and intercultural competencies. Students will also learn and reflect on classroom management, lesson planning, material development, and assessment tools.

Description: This course will expose students to current trends in ICC (Intercultural Communicative Competence), in the context of learning a new language. Topics can include but are not limited to critical analysis of language use, intercultural differences, and issues related to identities such as class, gender, race, and others from a global perspective. As such, students going abroad could particularly benefit from this course. The class may be taught in English or the target language. When this course is part of a Rice in Country program and is taught abroad, it is not eligible for audit.
